How a Kerala D2C Food Brand Won the AI Answer Box and Page One for High-Intent Snack Searches

  • South India

A direct-to-consumer Kerala food and spices brand went from almost no search footprint to the number one answer on ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews for buying-intent snack queries. Alongside this, nine keywords moved into Google's top twenty and its Google Business Profile rating reached a perfect five stars.

What we were up against

  • No presence in AI answer engines

The brand was not cited by ChatGPT, Gemini or Google AI Overviews for any buying-intent query, so a fast-growing discovery channel was returning competitors instead.

  • Very thin organic search footprint

Only two keywords ranked in the top thirty and keyword indexation was around ten percent, leaving high-intent snack and spice searches almost entirely to larger rivals.

  • High local interest, low action

The Google Business Profile drew thousands of monthly views but very few website clicks and almost no reviews flowing in, so visibility was not converting into enquiries or orders.

  • A focused brand lost among broad players

Larger snack and gifting brands won on catalogue breadth and review volume, so the brand's sharper authenticity story needed consistent, structured content to stand out.

How Leadmetrics helped

We built a single visibility engine across four surfaces at once: AI answer engines, organic search, the Google Business Profile and native social. Rather than chase traffic volume, the plan targeted the exact queries a ready-to-buy shopper would type or ask, then supported each one with structured, answer-friendly content and consistent local signals.

  1. Audit & Diagnosis

    • Ran a full website and technical audit covering crawlability, sitemaps, Core Web Vitals, schema and indexation to find why pages were not ranking.
    • Audited the Google Business Profile against categories, product listings, images, attributes and calls to action, and benchmarked review volume against competitors.
    • Mapped the real buyer journey from AI answers to organic rankings to local discovery, and identified which high-intent queries the brand was absent from.
  2. Strategy & Planning

    • Built a keyword cluster plan around product, ingredient, comparison, gifting and bulk-supply intent, prioritising buying-intent queries over vanity volume.
    • Set an Answer Engine Optimisation plan: consistent entity signals, Organization, LocalBusiness and Product schema, and concise question-and-answer blocks built for AI citation.
    • Planned a steady content and distribution cadence across blogs, Google Business Profile posts, and native Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn publishing.
  3. Execution

    • Published eight SEO and AEO optimised blog posts in a single month, each structured with clear questions, direct answers and internal links to product pages.
    • Shipped thirty-six native social posts across Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn plus ten Google Business Profile posts in the month, hitting one hundred percent of the deliverable plan.
    • Added directory listings and new backlinks to strengthen entity trust, and tightened product-page messaging around freshness, ingredients and secure ordering.
  4. Monitoring & Optimization

    • Tracked twenty core keywords plus AI answer positions across ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews every month.
    • Watched Google Business Profile interactions, calls, website clicks and rating, and used posts and review prompts to lift local action.
    • Reviewed each month's movers in a performance report and reinvested effort into the clusters closest to page one and AI citation.

The impact delivered

  • The brand became the number one cited answer on ChatGPT for two buying-intent snack queries, held steady for three straight months, and ranked number one on Google AI Overviews for a high-intent online-purchase query.
  • Google top-twenty keywords grew from one to nine, with thirteen keywords ranking overall. The highest-volume target, at 3,100 monthly searches, climbed from position thirty-two to twenty, and a core local query reached position seven.
  • Monthly website clicks from the Google Business Profile rose from four to twenty-four, phone calls reached ten per month, and the average rating improved to a perfect five stars across the review base.
  • The site drew more than one thousand organic active users across the July to mid-October window, with monthly website active users climbing from a standing start as the content programme compounded.

Key lessons learned

Buyers increasingly ask AI engines where to buy before they ever reach a product page. Structured, question-led content with clean entity signals can make a focused brand the cited answer ahead of much larger rivals.

For food and beverage D2C, a handful of high-intent purchase queries are worth more than broad top-of-funnel volume. Prioritising those clusters moves the keywords that actually sit next to a buying decision.

A high-traffic Google Business Profile only pays off when it drives action. Frequent posts, strong calls to action and a steady review habit turn views into website clicks, calls and orders.
