How a Live Online Learning Platform Built a Qualified Student Pipeline from Scratch

A new live online course and mentorship platform needed demand before it had search authority. In its first four months it built a 390-plus lead pipeline, grew paid conversions week on week, and earned a position-one answer on AI search for its own brand.

What we were up against

  • No search authority yet

As a newly launched platform, it held no top rankings for competitive course and career keywords and could not rely on organic search to carry early demand.

  • Demand had to be created fast

Enrolment targets could not wait for organic momentum, so paid acquisition had to generate qualified enquiries quickly and in a measurable way.

  • Multiple scattered enquiry paths

Course purchase, course enquiry, educator onboarding, partner enquiry and mentorship interest were all separate conversion paths, making it hard to see which effort produced real pipeline.

  • Thin trust and content footprint

With few published assets and limited off-page presence, the platform lacked the supporting material that helps learners feel confident enough to enquire.

How Leadmetrics helped

We ran a multi-channel plan built around one principle: create measurable demand now while laying the organic and AI-search foundations that compound later. Paid search drove enquiries, a steady content and off-page programme built authority, and tracking tied every enquiry back to its source so pipeline quality stayed visible.

  1. Audit & Diagnosis

    • Ran an automated website and SEO health audit to surface technical and performance gaps on the course and mentorship pages.
    • Mapped every conversion path, from course purchase and course enquiry to educator onboarding and partner enquiry.
    • Established a clean baseline across traffic, enquiries and paid performance so progress could be measured honestly.
    • Identified that organic rankings were absent and that early growth would need to come from paid search and content.
  2. Strategy & Planning

    • Set a six-month plan to strengthen discoverability, paid lead generation and trust signals in parallel.
    • Positioned the platform on human guidance, mentor-led clarity and career outcomes rather than catalogue size.
    • Built messaging for four audiences: students, working professionals, educators and institutional partners.
    • Prioritised the channels already connected, including search, analytics and the business profile, before adding more.
  3. Execution

    • Launched Google Ads search campaigns targeting course and career-mentorship intent to generate enquiries quickly.
    • Published a steady stream of blog content on AI, data science, career guidance and course-selection topics.
    • Ran a daily social and business-profile posting cadence to build a consistent, active brand presence.
    • Built off-page authority through a sustained backlink programme across the engagement.
  4. Monitoring & Optimization

    • Tracked leads by source and by stage so qualified pipeline, not raw clicks, stayed the measure of success.
    • Watched weekly paid conversion trends and shifted spend toward what was converting.
    • Monitored AI-search answer engines to see how the brand surfaced in generated answers.
    • Reported weekly and monthly on enquiries, paid performance and content output.

The impact delivered

  • The platform generated more than 390 tracked, de-duplicated enquiries across paid search, organic and landing pages in its first four months, building a real pipeline from a standing start.
  • Within that pipeline, 58 enquiries reached marketing-qualified stage, 26 progressed to opportunities and several converted to paying customers, showing genuine downstream quality.
  • Through the main campaign month, weekly Google Ads conversions climbed from 18 to over 100, reaching 335 conversions in a single month as the account scaled.
  • For brand and comparison questions, the platform now surfaces as the top answer across three major AI search engines with positive sentiment, an early foothold in AI-driven discovery.

Key lessons learned

New learning platforms cannot wait for rankings. Paid search creates qualified enquiries now, while content and off-page work build the authority that pays off later.

Tracking leads by source and stage keeps the focus on marketing-qualified enquiries and opportunities, so spend follows what actually converts rather than surface activity.

Getting cited in AI answer engines for brand and comparison questions is an early, defensible foothold that most competitors have not yet secured.
